AR English Department

My name is Gini Wozny and I am the English/Language Arts teacher at AR. I grew up and spent most of my adult life in southern California but came to HSU to get a BA in English in 1999. Falling in love with Humboldt and the credential program at HSU, I stayed and did my student teaching at Fortuna Union High School. I was lucky enough to get a job my first year out and have been teaching in the district since 2003.

When AR first opened I watched from the sidelines; intrigued by the idea of an early college high school. When the opening for an English teacher was made available I took the risk and moved up to the CR campus. It was the best decision I ever made. While I miss my colleagues from the main campus, AR is truly my dream school. The staff, the students, the campus, the mission; it’s exactly what my vision of an educational experience should look like.

Although I am the sole teacher of English for AR, I work closely with my colleagues, focusing on students, not disciplines. Our motto of “Respect, Responsibility, Choice” is something lived at AR, and we do our best to model and teach the idea of TOES (Time management, Organization, Engagement, Study Skills).

My favorite thing about my job is the students. Getting to know them and watching them learn and grow over their four years at AR is truly a pleasure and something not all teachers get to do. My discipline allows me to help them hone their communication skills and explore the world through text, but getting to know them as individuals is what I value most.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, about me or my classes. You may reach me by emailing
