AR Information

Academy of the Redwoods is a Fortuna Union High School District early college high school with an accelerated and rigorous college preparatory curriculum. The school is located on the CR Main Eureka Campus, seven miles south of Eureka at 7351 Tompkins Hill Road. It provides qualified students with a high school diploma and, potentially, up to two years of college credit by the time they complete their four-year high school education.

AR was one of the first "early college high schools" in California. There are more than 20 in operation throughout the state and more being implemented each year. In the 9th and 10th grades, AR students take predominantly high school courses; students can take up to 11 units of college credit per semester in the third and fourth year of the AR program.

The high school curriculum is marked by a clear focus on the importance of literacy in all disciplines: thus, AR students enroll in two years of intensive high school courses to better prepare them for college enrollment and the work that is demanded for success in post-secondary education.
