The Academy of the Redwoods (AR) is an Early College High School on the Eureka campus of College of the Redwoods (CR). AR was established in 2005 as a partnership between the Fortuna Union High School District, CR, and the Humboldt County Office of Education. AR offers concurrent enrollment as part of the Early College Initiative, which serves to increase college and vocational access to students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
At AR, students have the opportunity to earn up to two years of college credit, including vocational certificates, tuition free, along with a high school diploma. AR’s program uniquely prepares students to be successful in college and career, while also offering important aspects of a traditional high school experience. The AR structure allows for a gradual release of student responsibility as they learn to navigate the college ecosystem. The AR curriculum includes college readiness preparation in addition to many opportunities above and beyond the classroom.
Founded on the principles of Respect, Responsibility and Choice, the AR learning community is a competitive option for students interested in defining their own educational pathway while being surrounded by motivated peers.
AR is currently accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. For more information about the application process or program, attend the AR Information Night on December 1st, at 6 PM on Zoom. Additional information, including the Zoom link (under “Events”), can be found on the AR website https://ar.fuhsdistrict.org/ or by contacting the office at (707) 476-4203.
